synopsis

While waiting for Stella in a cabaret hall, Hoffman amuses his friends with tales of his past loves: Olympia, the animated puppet of Doctor Coppelius; Giulietta, a Venitian courtesan for whom he killed a man and Antonia who died from singing too much. When Stella finally arrives, Hoffman is completely drunk and she leaves with Lindorf, his arch-enemy...
